As a part of preparations for the start of NICA collider with MPD experiment designed for the studies of hot and dense nuclear matter we analyse MC model data on identified particle production at a set of different collision energies. In order to prepare analysis for real data we need to make a proper QA procedures, data selection criteria and prepare set of corrections for known effects which will smear the results for raw data.
Tasks
Learn different sources of experimental uncertainties affecting raw data and how to make corrections on those. Make procedures for corrections on detector acceptance and PID for charged particles. Make proper quality assurance on event and track levels of ion collisions. Verify event and track cuts for different colliding systems and energies.
Preliminary schedule by topics/tasks
The project duration is 6 weeks.
Required skills
Knowledge of C++/ROOT.
Basic knowledge of particle physics.
Good knowledge of English or Russian (B2 or higher).
Acquired skills and experience
Student will acquire better understanding of the QCD phase transition mechanism. Will get skills in making code in C++ based framework ROOT. Will get used to work with different platforms for collective coding e.g. GitHub, Overleaf etc.
