Thermal optimization of the "Intelligent Power Distributor" using the CFD method

The main goal of this project is to conduct a heat transfer simulation for the Intelligent Power Distributor (IPD) in several configurations. Based on this simulation, the optimal configuration will be chosen. While working on the project, students will prepare a simple 3D model and conduct a heat transfer simulation for it. Moreover, students will get the general idea of the entire NICA-MPD-Platform project and the issues of temperature stability.

Tasks

• get acquainted with the basic technical documentation of the IPD
• prepare a geometry model of the IPD in the current configuration
• conduct a heart transfer simulation for the IPD model
• carry out the analysis of the results
• propose an upgraded version of the configuration
• prepare an upgraded geometry model of the IPD
• conduct a heart transfer simulation for the upgraded IPD model
• carry out the analysis of the results
• prepare the final report
• prepare the final presentation

Preliminary schedule by topics/tasks

The expected project duration is 4-6 weeks.
The work schedule will be agreed upon with the student(s).

Required skills

English: level B2

Acquired skills and experience

The student(s) will be able to:
• interpret technical documentation
• use Autodesk Inventor Pro to create simple 3D geometry
• use Autodesk CFD to conduct heat transfer and gas flow simulations
• compile formal technical documentation
• make a simple engineering drawing
